ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TRAINED ON CAREER PROGRESSION, JOB DESCRIPTION AND EFFECTIVE SUPERVISION

The recruitment and training department organized a virtual sensitization on career progression, job description and effective supervision for all the administrative staff of the University of Nairobi on May 10th, 2022.

The Deputy Director Human Resource Ms. Hannah Mukua noted that this sensitization is a series of trainings that have been identified to steer the reform agenda in the University. She also noted that in line with the University’s mandate to be a world class University, such trainings
and to institute to instill the culture, the University has identified several areas in which we need to be trained as part of the people reforms.

In his remarks, the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Brian Ouma acknowledged that the sensitization has come at a critical moment as the University implements the reform agenda. He noted that the University must use the University human resource management tools in order to compete effectively. 

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Gitahi Kiama noted that that this kind of trainings are very important and will be needed by other sectors both teaching and technical staff. He urged the Chief Operations Officer to organize similar sensitizations for other members of staff. The Vice Chancellor noted that it is important that all administrators are trained in all aspects not in one line like it was before. 

Prof. Kiama further stated that when it come s to career progression, it is important for administrators to develop other skills that will help become effective leaders. The Vice Chancellor noted that administrators need to think critically and need to take the initiative when carrying out their duties.
