Staff Training and Development Fund 

The University is fully committed to a structured and systematic training and development  of all its employees on an ongoing needs basis to enable them perform their duties effectively and efficiently.

Activities

Corporate Training

The Section facilitates all corporate training emanating from staff and organizational needs, performance contract targets and any other training that management deems necessary from time to time.

Study Leave

  1. Study Leave Application.
  2. Approval and renewal of Study Leave depends on;
    1. Relevance of the course
    2. Application has to be recommended and forwarded through the college authorities

Terms during Study Leave

  • Receipt of Progress Reports from supervisors
  • Bonding for 3 years after completion of study leave failure to which all expenses incurred by the University are recovered in full.
  • Full Salary on self-sponsorship on studies within the Universities

80% Salary on Government or other sponsorship on studies away from the University

Fee Waiver

Staff on approved study leave pursuing Ph.D studies and are teaching grades or senior management grades can apply for fee waiver.

Staff Training & Development Fund

 Application for staff training and development funds is done at the beginning of a new academic year.  A circular is issued to all staff with information on application dates.

 The fund covers parallel programs in the University of Nairobi only.

ISO 9001:2015

The Unit coordinates all ISO activities in the University including training of staff, internal quality auditors conducting audit and reporting mechanisms.

Staff Unions

There are three registered trade unions (UASU, UNTESU and KUDHEHIA workers) which negotiate of terms of service on behalf of their members at national and internal levels.  The agreed terms are contained in Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) which are registered and gazetted as provided by Law.

UASU: Members of staff in teaching serve under the "Terms of Service for Academic, Senior Library and Administrative Staff" in addition to provisions of the CBA. Teaching staff may subscribe and be members of the Nairobi Chapter of Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU).

UNTESU: Members of staff in the Senior Administrative, middle level Technical, Library, Finance, and Catering appointment grades serve under the CBA provisions negotiated by Universities Non-Teaching Staff Union (UNTESU) and staff may subscribe to be members.

KUDHEHIA Workers: Members of staff in Grades I-IV serve under Terms of Service as provided in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which is negotiated between the University and the trade union, Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Union (KUDHEIHA).

Unions also send representatives to accompany their members of staff in disciplinary committees as and when the occasions demand.
