Over 150 students in UoN and other universities from the Kakuma and Daadab refugee camps are beneficiaries of DAFI Educational Scholarship. This was revealed when Windle International Kenya organized an orientation event for its beneficiaries at the UoN on Thursday November 28, 2019.
Mary Nzyoki, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, noted that the students go through interviews before being awarded the scholarship. Windle International Kenya pays the fees directly to the institutions of higher learning and they liaise with the International office of each institution. She also noted that they monitor the students’ school performance.
Kasaya Bramwel, Senior Education Counsellor, took the students through the program of the day, giving them an overview of the scholarship program, financial procedures, requirements and NHIF awareness.
The students were also introduced to a student’s body known as DAFIKESO, DAFI Kenya Students Organization. They were taken through the importance of being involved in the organization, the campus support teams and community service activities that the students engage in.
The Educational Scholarship is managed by DAFI, Windle International Kenya and UNHCR. Representatives from UNHCR were present.
