BENCHMARKING VISIT BY MOI UNIVERSITY ON CAREER GUIDELINES

The Human Resource Department had the privilege of hosting the Moi University for a benchmarking session on Career guidelines at the Director Human Resource Boardroom on February 19, 2024.

Chaired by Ms. Jane Gatune, Director, Human Resource, the meeting brought together representatives from both institutions. The Moi University team, led by Prof. Stanley Shitote had an insightful and productive exchange of best Human Resource knowledge and best practices in the area of career progression guidelines.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Gatune emphasized on the importance of developing career progression guidelines to guide career growth of staff in employment. The career guidelines guide in the recruitment, retention, development, training and promotion of staff to ensure they meet the set standards.

Potential employees and staff in University get to know well in advance what they require to join service and progress in their careers. The guidelines further outline the skills and competences necessary for advancement in the profession. Implementation of the Guidelines is expected to improve staff motivation and retention. It will also aid in development of targeted training programmes that address competency gaps identified from the performance of staff.

During the session, the team from Moi University had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in fruitful discussion on various aspects of the University of Nairobi career guidelines. Topics ranged from career progression of various cadres of staff, capacity building, recruitment and succession planning.

As a result of this benchmarking visit, both teams reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability and establishment of career progression guidelines that incorporate best practices in management of staff in Universities.
